London, Ontario, has a rich military heritage. An integral part of that heritage is the Royal Canadian Regiment. In fact, the venue in which we are having the London Scale Model Show 2010 is located right on the RCR’s grounds! Driving down Elizabeth Street to the Carling Heights Optimist Community Center, you will pass several of the RCR’s buildings, including the RCR Museum.

The RCR museum is dedicated to preserving the ongoing history of the Regiment, and as such has teamed up with LSMS 2010 to create an exciting new category: Best RCR Diorama!

This is Category G5 (see the newest Flyer), and it will be judged by both RCR and IPMS London personnel at our show. The goal is simple; build dioramas that illustrate specific historical examples of the RCR in action through time, throughout the world!

The RCR has been active since the days of Louis Riel’s uprising, and it has continued to serve Canada, at home and abroad right up until now. That means there is a TON of potential for great modelling – and a chance to be part of the efforts to preserve Canada’s military history.
Picking a subject for a diorama like this can be difficult, but not if you know where to start. That’s why you should go here:

http://www.theroyalcanadianregiment.ca/regimental_history.htm

Take a look at the photos and find one that piques your interest, and then see if you can build it as a diorama!

There’s even a chance the RCR Museum may want (with your permission, of course) to display your model in its museum for a period!

As you can see, there’s a lot of potential here, and the show is fast approaching!

So, get on it!

In addition, just like last time, the RCR Museum will be giving away buy-one-get-one admission passes at the show, and will have a display there as well! That’s a great way to get some inspiration for your 2012 entry into this new, exciting and unique category!

It is LSMS’ honour and privilege to work with the RCR museum on this new venture, and it will be exciting to see what you, the modelers, come up with!

See you in October!
